Boulevard Erkindik (formerly a boulevard named after F. E Dzerzhinskiy, also Dzerzhinka) is one of the most popular places in Bishkek. The long densely forested street loved by citizens.
The first street before the revolution was called Bulvarnaya. In 1924, the street was renamed Komsomolskaya and in 1927 it was named in honor of the deceased Soviet statesman Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky. The street had this name until the collapse of the Soviet Union, but to this day citizens call Erkindik Boulevard – Dzerzhinka.

There are many monuments to political and cultural figures on this street. Among the most significant are the monument to Mikhail Vasilievich Frunze, one of the most eminent military commanders of the Red Army who was born in Bishkek. The bust of Joomart Bokonbaev, a remarkable Kyrgyz poet, is set at the intersection of Erkindik Boulevard and Bokonbaev Street. There are several modern monuments installed in honor of Nasridin Isanov and Zhumabek Ibraimov – political figures of independent Kyrgyzstan.
