Ai-Kul is a large high-altitude lake, located on the territory of the Sarkent National Park in the Batken Region. Ai-Kul Lake is located in the western part of the country in the mountains of the Turkestan Range, which belongs to the Pamir-Alai system. The name of the lake translates as “lunar lake”, because of its curved shape, remotely resembling a moon. Ai-Kul is located at an altitude of 3000 meters, and to reach it is very difficult. Traveling to Ai-Kul is also complicated by the fact that the majority of shores of the lake are sheer cliffs. Therefore it is only possible to see the lake from the height of the surrounding passes or from its southern side, where the rivers filling it flow into the lake.
